Tim Steigerwald, President & CEO, Messer Construction Co.

Tim was named chairman of Messer, Inc. and CEO of Messer Construction Co. in 2019. In these roles, he’s responsible for the strategic direction of the company and ensuring we live up to our purpose of building better lives for our customers, communities and each other. He oversees Messer Construction Co., Messer Financial Services and the various subsidiaries of these companies, with a focus on fostering an environment for employees’ professional growth and delivering on our commitments to clients.
Tim began his career with Messer Construction Co. in 1984, working as a co-op while earning his bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering and Management from Purdue University. He joined Messer full time in 1988 and earned his MBA from Xavier University in 1993. During the next 25 years, Tim advanced in the company from project engineer to project manager, and then to senior project executive overseeing multiple jobsites. Notable projects he worked on during his tenure in Cincinnati included University Hospital, Newport on the Levee and The Banks Parking & Infrastructure.
Tim relocated with his family to lead operations in Messer’s Columbus, Ohio, office in 2001, and again in 2005 to open a new region office in Indianapolis. As the company grew, so did the need for a dedicated leader to focus on improving the way the company executed its business development process across multiple offices and states. In 2010, Tim took on the role of leading company-wide project development, encompassing business development, sales support, marketing and corporate communication, and cost planning and estimating. Tim relocated back to Cincinnati in 2014, and in 2018 he was named president of Messer Construction Co.
Tim is committed to being involved in community organizations through volunteer leadership. Current board service includes the Cincinnati Museum Center, where he is chair of the Governance Committee, and YMCA of Greater Cincinnati, where he is a member of the Governance Committee. He also is an active member of the Cincinnati Regional Business Committee, and he serves on the Facilities Committee at St. Xavier High School. Notable past board service includes the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Columbus, the Ronald McDonald House of Cincinnati and the Hollis Adams Foundation.
In addition to community engagement, Tim has helped advance the missions of various construction industry organizations throughout his career. Highlights include serving as board president for the Metro Indianapolis Coalition for Construction Safety, and board service for the Indiana Construction Roundtable and Associated Builders and Contractors, where he also served on the National Diversity Committee.
Tim and his wife, Chris, have been married for 29 years. They have five children and live in Loveland, Ohio. In his free time, Tim enjoys outdoor sports and encouraging the interests of his family.
